I like playing games on my phone or tablet that make me feel smarter. They make me feel that my time playing is time well spent, unwasted, and useful. Word and puzzle games do that for me. I feel smarter while I’m playing and for a few moments shortly thereafter.
Do you enjoy word games too?
This week I started playing a game called Texas Word’Em. This game takes everything you love in a card game, trivia game, and a word game and puts them all into one! It is a game of quick wit, casual trivia, and high-stakes wagering.
Playing is simple, guess all types of words and trivia using the least number of clues before time’s up. Choose the right hint cards to find the answer. Enjoy it solo to pass time and relax, or get into a fast-paced competition with people from all over the world — sounds simple enough, right?
What I found very pleasing about the Texas Word’Em app is that when you initially download the app, it gives you a “Warm Up” period where the app walks you though how to play. After the initial “tutorial”, Texas Word’Em will walk you through game play step-by-step until YOU have tried everything and seen what the app has to offer. I was having so much fun in Warm Up that I forgot I wasn’t even truly playing the game yet!
After you have the hang of the game, Texas Word’Em will take you back to the home page where you are welcome to login with your Facebook account or create an account just for game play with them. Logging in with Facebook is the fastest way to go, and it insures you have the opportunity to play with YOUR friends — if you choose to do so.
Texas Word’Em is more than just a word game — I mean — “Texas Word’Em” is a play on words for a famous poker game. Because the app is a word game based off of a hand of “Texas Hold ‘Em” poker, when players challenge each other they then place bets to make the game more interesting (don’t worry, no real money is exchanged here).
To make the app even more interesting the developer came up with Hot Sauce! You can use your Hot Sauce to make your bets worth more. Gain Hot Sauce by taking it from your opponents. Lose it when your opponents take it from you!
The Texas Word ‘Em leaderboard is really interesting! If you plugged in your country (and state) during setup, the leaderboard keeps track of where you rank in your state, among your friends, and among the world who play Texas Word’Em. Right now, I’m #2 in my state!
Mom’s Thoughts:
I enjoyed playing Texas Word’Em. The words are challenging, but the hint cards are really great. I love that I can swipe away a word and it comes back at the end. That is super helpful for when I freeze up and cannot think of the word (even when I know it).
Both the solo and competition versions are really fun. I prefer to play alone, only because I don’t like the rush of being timed competitively. I think it will be neat for my teens to be able to challenge each other; because they enjoy playing competitive games together.
