Did you know that one of my favorite things to do is edit photos and design graphics? It’s true. This love of mine has allowed me the opportunity to use and review several photo editing apps for our MDR readers. Each app has had their own features I love most, but I don’t think I have ever seen one quite like myBabyD. This app is for everyone with kids, or about to have children of their own. It allows you to take pregnancy, baby, and children photos and turn them into something fun and magical.
Even after the baby arrives and is beyond six months of age, myBabyD has a lot of fun backgrounds to play with. I’ve edited photos of my 15 month-old, 3 year-old, and pictures of my 5 year-old with myBabyD. — You should have seen the look on my 5 year-old’s face when he saw his first picture! He was super tickled and thought it was amazing.
About myBabyD:
myBabyD is an amazing photo and editing app for mums! Convert your existing photos into instant works of art where your baby or the mom to be will be the main character. With its easy to use interface, you can turn your baby into a chef, a superhero, a racing car driver or part of a holiday scene!
Transform their world into a funny drawing! Express your creativity making original scenarios with your pics!
How to Use myBabyD:
The Background Cutting Tool.
The first thing you will want to do with myBabyD is play with a photo so you understand how the app works. I recommend you choose a photo that has a simple background as these are the easiest to edit.
This photo (above) is very simple and the background isn’t “busy”.
After choosing a background and the photo you want to edit, you are prompted to draw a circle around the child in the photo so the app can cutaway the background. Don’t draw your circle too close to your child as the app will experience difficulties removing the background (since there will be little differences for the app to recognize.)
Seconds after drawing your circle, much of the background will be removed, but likely, not all. Make sure the background area is within your editing screen and then use the wand – tool to remove larger portions of background. The eraser tool can be used for any minor pieces that might linger. (The paint brush will help you add back to the picture if you take away too much.)
The first few times I used myBabyD I didn’t fully understand how to operate it the cutting tool and manual wands. I did a terrible job and my pictures looked so bad I didn’t even save them. I stopped myself and decided I might need to learn more before I began — that’s when I asked the developer for tips and was pointed to the tutorial page: Background Eraser Tutorial. After I watched the tutorial video, the app made much more sense to me. I was able to return to the app and easily cutaway my backgrounds from my images.
Creating the scene is the easy part, even my three year-old enjoys doing this. My best advice for creating a scene well is to think about what you want to do before you do it. Since you can’t take the layers and move them from front to back, you have to decide in advance if any of your layers will appear on top of another layer in the scene. An example would be: when you want to have a shirt and hat layer. For this, I recommend adding the shirt first, and the hat last since the hat may touch the collar of the shirt.
Sharing, saving, sending:
After your myBabyD scene is complete you have the option of sharing it to your social media, saving it in your gallery, or sending it via an email.
Mom’s Thoughts & More:
I want more! myBabyD is a fun app and I love making the pictures, but I want more! I want more backgrounds and more features. While the app is free and has great backgrounds under their free option, going pro has its rewards too. My biggest “wow” for going pro is more backgrounds — 52 of them actually! AND when you save your photo after you go pro, it is saved in high resolution so it looks great when framed.
