I love all the cute decorations out for Easter. The pastel colors are all really sweet, and the bunnies, eggs, and other items are charming. I especially like Easter trees. This year, though, instead of buying a bunch of stuff, my daughter and I decided to make some decorations for the house. She wanted to make gumball machines out of garden pots and glass bowls. Then fill them with jelly beans. I thought it sounded like a cute idea, so I went out and got the supplies.
Materials
- 4 inch pot per gumball machine
- small glass bowl (fish bowl or floral)
- 2 small saucers that fit inside the rim of the bowl without falling in
- hot glue
- ribbon
- decorative flower
- pastel paint
- paint brushes
- decorative circle
- jelly beans
Directions
First decide what color you want to make your gumball machine, and paint the outside of the pot that color, as well as the complete bottom and sides of the two saucers. Let those dry and do a second coat.
Once the paint is completely dry, hot glue both saucers together rim to rim. If the seam is not perfect, do not worry, because ribbon will cover it. Pick whichever side you like best to be the top and glue a flower to the top ( a dowel would work too). Now carefully add a drop of glue to the rim and attach the ribbon. Carefully wrap the ribbon tautly around the saucers. When you get to the spot you began, cut the ribbon and glue it to the same spot you started. Since this side will be more messy, it will be the back.
Now turn the pot over and glue the glass bowl to the base of the pot. The saucer lid will fit in the bowl and close off the top of the gumball machine. Then glue a decorative circle or draw on a gumball machine door to finish the look of your gumball machine. Lastly fill it with jelly beans or other types of Easter candy. These look great on my piano, but would make nice center pieces for a table. Voila a candy bowl that is cute, and festive!
I love the way these Easter Gumball Machines turned out. They are so cute we have decided to use them as Easter gifts for my sister-in-law, and my best friend. Then I think we may have to make some more because I will miss seeing them on the piano. Plus they are perfect when I need to sneak a few jellybeans to keep me going through the day.
