It’s summer in most of the world, and that means that it is now officially hot everywhere. If it’s hot at home, imagine how hot it may be while you are travelling, thankfully, there are some easy ways to beat the heat while traveling.
Rest
When it’s really hot, our bodies cannot function as well as they are overheated. If this happens and you find yourself feeling unwell, find a place with air conditioning to rest, I suggest to always book hotels that have air conditioned rooms in case you need a place to cool off. If you are in Singapore, your hotel will hopefully have been serviced by AS Aircon Servicing and you will be able to rest and stay cool.
Dress in Layers
We all know that sometimes when you travel to a new place, you spend long days on your feet exploring and seeing the sights. While it may be cool when you leave in the morning, the daytime sun can often make it unbearable by midday. Dress in layers in order to allow yourself to remove some items of clothing and stay cool. Lighter colours are also your friend, they absorb less heat than dark colours for sitting out in the sun.
Wear Sunscreen
Nothing is going to make you feel warmer than if you end up with a sunburn on top of the heat. It’s important to stay on top of your sunscreen use and re-apply as necessary to avoid being burned. If you find yourself excessively sweating, apply more as needed.
Stay Hydrated
If you are hot, and walking around, you’re going to need to stay hydrated. For this kind of activity, it’s important to continuously drink water to avoid becoming dehydrated and feeling unwell.
Start Early
Start your day early, before it gets too hot and do all your strenuous activity before noon. In the afternoons, rest, sit by the pool or hang out in air-conditioned museums to avoid the midday heat. You can venture back out in the evening as the sun begins to set. Also, consider trying to plan your daily activities by location, that will help you minimize how much traveling you need to do each day, and you can focus on spending some time really enjoying a neighborhood or small town.
Ice Cream
When it’s really hot out, treat yourself to something cool, like ice cream or a popsicle. What better way to experience the culture of where you are than to find a local ice-cream joint and try something you cannot get at home.
Going somewhere warm for a trip does not have to be the end of the world. By planning ahead to ensure your hotel has air conditioned rooms included so that you can rest if needed, wearing light-coloured layers and drinking enough water, you can ensure you will stay well-enough to enjoy your sight-seeing while on vacation. Planning your activities to stay in a small location for the day, getting an early start and finding time to sit down and enjoy a cool treat will help you remain comfortable and beat the heat.
