1. Insist She Rest
After an accident, rest is vital to full and lasting recovery and healing. To potentially prevent any further damage, mandatory bedrest is essential for at least a few days after an accident. Turn this into a comfortable experience by bringing her meals to her in bed or setting her up in a recliner in the living room for a day to relax and rest.
2. Help With Household Chores
If the accident was severe enough to cause debilitating injuries, it could prove to be difficult or even painful for your mother to go around the house and perform her usual chores. Pitch in and help your mother with the tasks around the house that require strenuous physical activities. Helping your mother will relieve the physical stress and promote healing.
3. Offer To Drive Mom Places
After an accident, and especially where a severe injury has occurred, a person may not feel comfortable doing certain things by themselves for a while. It can be a little terrifying to get back into the usual routine of running errands. Offer to drive your mother to run her errands. Driving will offer her some time outside of the house which can help stave off depression and lift her spirits.
4. Discuss The Aftermath
If the accident was severe enough, there could be a need for your mother to seek medical attention afterward. Should this be the case, even with health insurance, there could be expensive medical bills arriving in her near future. To help pay for these medical bills, you should discuss the possibility of talking to an attorney to see if she has any legal recourse available to her to assist her financially.
5. Be There Emotionally
Getting into an accident can cause untold amounts of mental stress. Your mother may need someone to talk to or to keep her company while she deals with the shock or trauma. Consider taking a couple of days off of work to stay with your mother to be her companion and offer her emotional support.
During her recovery from the accident, be sure that she receives proper nutrition to help improve her health. Her doctor will be able to recommend the types of foods she should increase in her diet. The doctor may even prescribe some vitamin supplements to boost her healing factor.
