What do you and the kids do for Halloween? This year I have all four kids but only three are technically within trick or treating age. I told my oldest if he carried his sister door to door that he could have her bucket of candy. It’s the baby’s first Halloween and I’m kind of excited. We had some Halloween fun when we received our Spooky Celebration box from Kidstir.
About kidstir
We are moms who want to raise children who have a healthy and happy connection to food. We believe good food can be fun for kids—from shopping at the farmer’s market for ripe raspberries to cooking up a batch of homemade granola bars together in the kitchen. By educating and empowering our kids about food, we can prepare them to make smart, healthy choices, no matter what comes their way!
That’s why we launched Kidstir. We took our experiences as cookbook authors and chefs, and from Disney, Parents, Scholastic and Mattel, and developed an experience that kids and parents love. With our monthly hands-on kits, kids get to build their own cookbooks, try new foods, and learn all about where food comes from. They also will gain important life skills in the kitchen—and cook up some fun family memories!
The kids had a lot of fun making witch’s brew and scary-oli from the kidstir recipes for yummy Halloween treats. The kidstir cookbook recipes were very easy for them to read and follow directions. My step daughter helped make the witch’s brew and my youngest son helped make the scary-oli (ravioli). He had never watched me make ravioli from scratch before so he thought this was super cool.
The witch’s brew was simple by adding a few ingredients to apple cider but the homemade frozen cubes were the best part according to the kids because they taste just like cool whip from the can or tub. Now they want to make homemade cool whip all the time as it is coming up on hot cocoa season for us. We will probably enjoy some once we get home from trick or treating, too. I think that getting the kidstir subscription boxes are a really neat idea and I know my kids loved getting and using it.
The kids also enjoyed snacking on Ice Chips candy over the weekend while we were enjoying Halloween festivities. My step daughter really enjoyed the berry flavored bag of ice chips while the boys were all about the root beer float ice chips.
Ice Chips candy is a nice candy option for Halloween (and any other time of year). It is made with Xylitol, it helps reduce (new) tooth decay, and does not impact insulin levels (diabetic friendly candy).
While we are out trick or treating tomorrow night we will be prepared for the dark and the weather. We will have our jackets, some flashlights, and the kids will wear their BugBand bands. They not only glow in the dark but will also help repel flies, mosquitoes, gnats, no-see-ums, and fleas. We still have flies and gnats around the area so hopefully we won’t be swatting at bugs while we are trying to trick or treat.
What Halloween activities did you do with the kids? Are they going trick or treating or going to a trunk or treat? I hope you all have a safe, happy Halloween from all of us here at Mom Does Reviews.
