Hi-Chew is the chewy candy from Japan that has tons of flavors, lots of ways to buy it and made with real fruit juices, purees, gluten free, nut free and perfect for all members of the family.
I hadn’t heard about Hi-Chew until recently but the fact is, they’ve been around for a very long time. In 1956, something called Chewlets were born. The theory was it was a soft piece of candy that you chewed like gum. Since it dissolved as you chewed it, you didn’t have to remove it from your mouth like gum. In 1975, what is now called Hi-Chew became a cultural icon among all Japanese.
There are so many flavors of Hi-Chew. With the exception of Hi-Chew Bites, all varieties are individually wrapped and full of flavor. They come in bags or packs, individual flavors or variety packs. There are Fizzies, Bites, Sours, and Fruits.
Some of the flavors include banana, mango, melon, green apple, sour lime, grapefruit, strawberry, grape and kiwi. There are so many different flavors, you’d never get bored when trying them all.
My daughter loves the grapefruit chews. She says it tastes like a sweet tangerine…however, I told her that if that was the case, then it would be called sweet tangerine. But, being the mom that I am, I’m wrong in that assessment. She’s eaten all of them! I wasn’t even allowed to try the grapefruit for fear she’d miss out on it.
