Busy Lives Need a Time Out With the MUSE Brain Sensing Headband
From the time the alarm clock goes off in the morning until typically 1 or 2 am, my life is on full speed mode. I always jokingly say there are not enough hours in a day but truth is, I really believe it. I STAY stressed out like most moms and dads do. It is hard to get time in during a day to focus on activities to help decrease stress! With the MUSE Brain Sensing Headband, I can de-stress in a matter of just 5 minutes or less!
After a severe battle with depression and anxiety last year, I found myself in a hospital for an entire month straight. It was not a good time for me OR my family. During that time, I worked with therapists on how to re-focus and find ways to live a less stressful life. Between learning to say “NO” (which is still a weak point) to finding coping mechanisms when life gets overwhelming, I still find myself stressed to the max. One of the coping mechanisms the therapists gave me as meditation but you just do not realize how distracted your mind becomes! MUSE, The Brain-Sensing Headband has been a huge help in helping me find time to meditate, unwind, and relax without having to block out more than 5 minutes of time.
What is MUSE
MUSE, The Brain Sensing Headband measures your brain waves similar to how a heart monitor would measure your heartbeat! Using the 7 finely calibrated sensors on the headband, MUSE detects and measures your brain activity in real time!

The App
Simply download the FREE app, turn on the Bluetooth headband and allow the device to pair with your phone. The app is extremely easy to use and takes you step by step on how to properly wear the headband as well as how to meditate! Each time you start a session, the calm voice will give you encouragement on why meditation is important or tips on meditation. You pick the duration of the meditation on the app and it tracks every session so you can see how you have improved!
After each session, you’ll see how you did through a series of graphs and charts. Track your progress over time and earn points to unlock new features. MUSE will show you how your brain did from moment to moment through simple, easy to understand graphs and charts.
The Session
As you begin the session, the app will tell you first if the sensors are reading properly. Once you are ready for the meditation part, sit back and relax. Your only job is to focus on your breathing AND RELAX! That is so hard for me to do but it is a work in progress and I am beginning to see nice results. As you meditate, peaceful sounds or music will play as the headband is detecting your brain activity in real time. If it detects too much brain activity, sounds will become a little less peaceful to remind you to get focused back on your breathing. Once it detects that you have focused back to just the breathing, the peaceful sound continues.
For example, one of the sounds is gentle waves. As you meditate more, you will hear calm waves with birds chirping in the background. If your mind begins to wander, you will start hearing wind and louder ocean waves without the birds chirping! It helps you acknowledge that your mind has become too busy! I thought the added noise would stress me out more but it just helps get my attention back on ONE thing… ME.

Knowing that anytime I feel myself getting stressed, I can take a time out and refocus my brain to a peaceful state is a tremendous help and worth it for my sake and those around me!
