I have been struggling with my health for years. I know there has to be a better way to live – I shouldn’t dread waking up in the morning because I know I won’t feel good like I used to in my 20’s. I was very excited when I was asked to participate in The Prime book review with and interview with the author: Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary. After reading just a few sentences about the book and Dr. Chaudhary, I knew this was something I REALLY NEED!

About the Book:
LOSE WEIGHT, GET SHARPER… NO DIET REQUIRED.
Integrative neurologist Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary discovered a beautiful side effect to the eating and lifestyle tools she gave her brain patients–shedding excess pounds. In this, her first book, she shows readers that weight gain is a result of the body being in a toxic, inflammatory state. If your body is not prepared or ‘primed’ for weight loss, you will fight an uphill biochemical battle, and the odds of succeeding are slim. So she’s reverse engineered our way of eating, so we can stop dieting backward and start succeeding instead.
Using a blend of cutting-edge science and ancient wisdom, Dr. Chaudhary has crafted a plan like no other. In it, she shares:
-The importance of neuroadaptation, food addiction, and the brain (or, why it’s not your fault that dieting has been so hard in the past!)
-Why it’s not what you eat, but what you digest
– How to determine if you have a Leaky Brain—and what The Prime can do about it (hint: everything)
– The 4 Stages of the Prime
- Activate a Biochemical Shift
- Crush Cravings (No Willpower Required)
- Ignite Energy and Fat
- Biohack Your Lifestyle Habits
… and how they’ll help you spontaneously shed pounds, by adding (not subtracting) simple teas and supplements and without giving up any foods you love.
With this being a Brand New Year- many of us make resolutions to diet, lose weight and feel great. But, it never lasts. We might lose weight, but we can’t keep it off or we just know that there is something missing. That is where The Prime comes in. We have been dieting backwards.
Dr Chaudhary said:
So rather than going against the grain, I’ve accepted that weight loss is important to people, and if they’re willing to come to this program because it helps them to lose weight spontaneously, so be it. It also helps to completely change the way that people’s brains are functioning, the way their digestion is functioning, and it helps them to live a much fuller life.
I took the Gut IQ quiz and got a score of 50.
This quiz is very helpful to find out How The Prime will help you! How smart is the brain in your gut? How functional is your brain-gut connection? It’s time to find out. Your score will translate into a minimum number of weeks that you should spend at each of the four Prime stages
50–80 points: The Gentle Track—four weeks per stage. Your gut definitely needs some work, but don’t feel bad; this is quite common. Life in our modern world is particularly conducive to gut and brain degradation, and many of my patients fall into this category. I strongly suggest you move through the program slowly. Trust me, going slowly can sometimes be the fastest way to success. Take a good four weeks for each stage—that may seem like a long time, but at this rate, the changes will really stick.
You can take the Gut IQ test yourself HERE.
Do you have Fake Fat? I also took the Fake Fat Quiz.
Lymphatic backup looks and feels like fat (it is very soft, like a water balloon), but it fluctuates from morning to evening or throughout the menstrual cycle. If you are one of those people who can gain five pounds overnight (or lose five pounds in a week), you are probably plagued with Fake Fat. Do you have it?
I took the quiz and answered yes to 4 out of the 7 questions. If you answered yes to two or more of these questions, then you probably have Fake Fat. Take the quiz for yourself HERE.
Highlights from an Interview with Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary:
There were a few other bloggers that also asked questions about The Prime and how it affected their lives or how it related to their readers. I asked about how we can encourage our children to embrace this new way of thinking.
My question: I have a 13-year-old, and he says, “This is stupid, why should I do it,” but once he starts doing things that he knows are good for him, he actually likes to keep it up, so I’m just trying to figure out how to get him started.
Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary: That’s a good question. I actually want to write an entire blog about this. Most of my patients were moms especially in the beginning, and they were often the ones that took the responsibility of the entire family for making them healthy. This was a really common question, especially for teenagers, and I’ll answer this from two perspectives.
First of all, realizing that in these years, they’re supposed to be looking for who they are. They may or may not be following all of your recommendations, but the one thing they are doing is they’re watching you. One thing that my grandmother told my mom was from 12 to 21 every child on every single continent goes through this period of change. You might feel like you’re losing them, and then after 21, they come back to you.
When they do, oftentimes they come back to the values that you have been modeling for them that entire time. So the first thing I would say is: if you want your teenagers to do something, you better be doing it. Especially those years where you think they’re not even listening or they don’t even care, because they very much do. They’re taking in input from everywhere.
The other thing I would say is the beauty of this program is that it’s really spontaneous. I’ve had patients who came in who were like, “I don’t even really understand what you’re doing, and I don’t believe anything, but I’m desperate, and everybody told me that I had to come to see you, and you’re my last choice.” I was like, “I don’t need you to believe this. It’s perfectly okay. Just do the steps.”
So if they could even just do one of the really simple things that don’t require a lot of work. A lot of my teenage patients love the tea. I don’t know if it’s a cultural thing where you have something in the thermos that’s kind of exotic or what it is, but they oftentimes will do the tea pretty religiously.
If you can have them take triphala, which is pretty easy, that also has a huge impact. I’ve got my 7-year-old son taking triphala. As a household, if you’re on the program and you’re making the Prime juice, give them some once or twice a week. Just little introductions.
So I would say a combination of mirroring those healthy habits in yourself, and using some of these really simple things that have a biochemical imprint on them.
One of the things that really struck home was her comment about having a clearer mind:
As somebody who’s always really valued the efficiency of my thinking, just like most women, I had to be a multitasking goddess on a regular basis.
I started to realize that what was taking me 15 hours, I was now doing in eight hours, and that there are so many problems that are created because you’re not mentally clear when you’re addressing them. You don’t have energy, and when you don’t have energy, you make a lot of mistakes.
So far, I haven’t made it through Stage One yet… but even after a week of taking just the triphala, I feel better and clearer already!
