Summer is officially here and if you haven’t already begun to think about swimwear, it’s time to get moving! Just because you are a mom, it doesn’t mean you have to rock the stereotypical mom look at the beach or pool. Say goodbye to those frumpy, unflattering bathing suits—you can look sexy while still keeping yourself covered up in all the necessary places
Despite what some may say, one-piece swimsuits can be extremely flattering and sexy. More and more top designers are catching onto this notion and expanding their one-piece offering. Instead of your typical dark, solid-colored one-pieces, you’ll see a ton of bright solids as well as fun-in-the-sun prints this season. Look for styles with ruched fabric to create a slimming effect around your torso. If you crave support, look for retro-inspired one-pieces with built-in underwire support. And for those who want to show off a hint of skin, look for a style with a plunging neckline or low, open back.
Similarly, monokinis are also considered one-pieces, however, they feature side cutout sections. Not only are they great for giving off that high-fashion look, but they come in a wide variety of styles and coverage options. If you want to cover the majority of your stomach area, choose a style with subtle side cutouts. But if you want to show off your obliques and just hide the lower ab region, opt for a monokini style with bigger cutout sections.
Although one-pieces are great options for moms, they’re not so great for running to the restroom or if your top half is disproportionate to your bottom half. Tankinis are great two-piece swimsuit options with varying degrees of coverage. To cover up your belly, choose a style with either a longer tankini top or high-waist bottom, which will offer you a one-piece look with two-piece convenience. If you want to hide your upper inner thigh area, choose a tankini with a sweet skirted bottom. Mix and match separates to come up with a look that meets your needs.
Finally, bikinis can also be great swimwear choices for moms. Styles with high-waist or skirted bottoms can be especially flattering. If you’re planning on running around after your little ones, you may want to avoid bandeau tops (unless they have straps or underwire support) as well as string Brazilian bottoms, as they’re more likely to slide out of place. Regardless of the style you choose, make sure it makes you feel great, inside and out, and wear it proudly!
